
Every once in a while I will have a moment when I feel extremely overwhelmed and consumed by everything that is going on around me. Feeling overwhelmed will lead to stress. This is not a healthy state to function in. People are more productive when their minds are clear. So how do I clear my thoughts and regain clarity??
I take out my notebook and planner. (Yes, I still have a physical planner I can’t live without. lol) In my notebook I make a list of all the thoughts that are running around in my head. Every single last one of them! Once I have them all on paper, I open up my planner. Each idea that is in my notebook is now assigned to a day. For example, if one of my thoughts is “clean my office” I will choose one day in the future when I will do that. So for Saturday, I will write down “clean office”. I refuse to worry about my office being a mess until Saturday. When the thought pops up about my office, I can eliminate the stress by reminding myself that I will take care of it on Saturday.
Do this for every item that is on your list. Don’t over stuff your day with too many items. Tackle 1-3 topics a day. Spread your list out over a couple days. Assign the more pressing issues for this week and push those that can wait until next week.
You make better decisions with a clear mind and will learn how to relax. So grab a sheet of paper and a calendar. Clear your mind of all those thoughts and watch how fast you begin to relax.
