Check out this quick video regarding “How to overcome conflict resolution mistakes you’ve been making in 5 easy steps!”
Below, you can find a couple of tips from the video.
Step away from the problem
Check yourself and become more self-aware. Most of us repeat unhelpful behaviors in conflicts because we are unaware of what we are doing
We can only change habits through awareness
Plan what you want to say to avoid saying something that will escalate a conflict
Focus on a solution to the problem, not who is at fault.
A resolution should be your ultimate goal.
Decide if you want to be right, or if you want to win together!
Be clear about your intentions and goals for the conversation
If your most important goal is to win, blame or change the other party, the conflict will probably escalate, no matter what skills you use.
Only begin a conversation about a conflict in order to learn something new, express your views and feelings, or to problem-solve.
Conflict is not a contest
Have an accountability partner
You need people in your circle that support your marriage and are not afraid to tell you when you are wrong.
Seek wise counsel from people that love God when trying to navigate through a rough patch.
Take responsibility for your assumptions and unexpressed expectations.
Sometimes most of the battle happens in our head.
Be willing to let go of your interpretation—believing that our beliefs and conclusions about others are “the truth” creates a lot of conflicts
Is it really worth it?
We don’t always have to correct people. God has a way
If he leaves this earth tomorrow, was the disagreement worth it.
