I remember when we got a notification that a terrible storm was headed our way. Unfortunately, as soon as the wind started blowing outside, we remembered my hubby had a lot of stuff sitting outside of the shed. Before the fear of what “could” go wrong, we had to make a couple of quick decisions or everything was going to be ruined. So we ran outside and started grabbing things as quickly as we could and placed them back into the shed.
My 14-year-old was transfixed on the wind. She wouldn’t budge. It was as though she kept spinning in circles yelling “This storm is going to be bad. It is so windy. Everything is going to be blown away.”
I had to snap her out of her moment of insanity and remind her that we have to focus on what we are supposed to do and forget about how the wind is blowing and what storm may or may not come.
After 5 minutes, we had everything in the shed and were back in the living room watching a movie. Even in the safety of our home, my 14-year-old was still transfixed on the wind the damage that “could” be done.
So I asked her what is she going to focus on? The winds and what “could” happen, or rest knowing that you are safe inside and enjoy this movie.
During your toughest seasons, you must be intentional by setting your mind on Christ. Focus on him, listening attentively for his instructions and following his guidance. Obedience will always lead you into victory. That doesn’t mean you won’t run into a couple of hiccups along the way. But, it does mean everything you experience along the journey will be used for your good. (Romans 8:28) The good and the bad. If you focus on Christ before the storm, he will show you how to safeguard your life and marriage so that the storm won’t destroy anything God has ordained for you.
He will give you strategies so that you can experience victory. Even in the midst of what can appear to be a rough patch. And when the burden feels too heavy for you to carry, he reminds us to cast our cares on him. (1 Peter 5:7)
The greatest benefit of focusing on God when there is a storm on the horizon is God is in control of the storm. The storm might not be as bad as we think it will be.
You see, the weatherman told us there would be hail, thunder, lighting, along with damage to homes and vehicles. They acted like this was going to be the big one. But, in actuality, the storm never got as bad as it was predicted.
Stay blessed Sis!
